Top of Mind Awareness · Strategy 1 of 17

Yard signs get leads when they show up at every stop, not just at finished jobs. Put two A-frame signs out wherever one of your vehicles parks, one facing each direction of traffic, with your logo and a QR code on both. Then take two photos at every jobsite so the same five-minute stop also feeds your Google Business Profile, your website and your social media.

Why do branded trucks stop getting noticed?

Because every contractor has one. A wrapped truck is now the minimum entry point to being a "contractor," and it blends into the background. Many homeowner visits also happen in unbranded vehicles, which advertise nothing at all.

The neighbors of your prospects and clients are the most underused growth asset in your business. Your company has someone at prospect and customer homes every week. Every time you park in front of one of those homes, you are working inside a neighborhood where attention is naturally high. People notice movement. They notice vehicles. They notice signs. Most importantly, they remember what they see repeatedly.

This strategy is about making your presence feel normal long before a homeowner needs you.

How do you set up A-frame signs at every stop?

Equip every vehicle with two heavy-duty A-frame signs and put them out every time the vehicle parks somewhere other than your shop.

1. Side one: LOCAL CONTRACTOR · Your company name

2. Side two: Easy Financing Available · Your trade, for example "Kitchen and Bath Specialists"

3. Both sides: your logo and a QR code

Set the signs out the way a utility crew sets out caution cones, so they speak to traffic in both directions.

Quality frames are easy to find. Print the messages for outdoor use, and keep two spares of each.

What photos should you take at each jobsite?

Two per stop: one facing the front of the vehicle when you arrive, and one facing the rear before you leave.

  • Get at least two houses in the background.

  • No people in the shot, especially children.

  • Rename each photo with the neighborhood, town, ZIP code and service, for example "Cherry Hills Village Denver CO 12345 Kitchen Remodel."

Pro tip: The file name, caption and page a photo lives on are what tell Google and AI tools where you work. Post each photo to your Google Business Profile and to a town-specific page on your website, with the town and service written in the caption. Over a year, those photos prove you are local in every community you serve. Keep location data on for your own records, because the arrival and departure photos double as a time log.

What mistakes make jobsite signs a waste of money?

Avoid:

- Overloading signs with information

- Using signs on some jobs and not others

- Only documenting the "perfect" jobs

Do instead:

- One short, clear message per side

- The same placement at every stop

- Thirty minutes of dedicated time each week to post and file the photos

What does this look like after two years?

Imagine you own your local market. Your company name comes up every time someone in the community mentions your trade, and often when someone simply mentions upgrading their home.

Your phone rings, your inbox dings, and your website chat pings several times a week with homeowners who want you at their home. Your brand is the new standard, and competitors are chasing you. These homeowners aren't asking you to be one of three bidders. They're hoping they can afford you.

That is achievable by doing a few things consistently. Execution is simple, but it takes a firm commitment: five extra minutes every time a vehicle parks somewhere other than your shop. Five minutes. Every time.

Frequently asked questions

Are A-frame signs allowed at residential jobsites?

Usually, on private property with the homeowner's permission. Many cities restrict signs on sidewalks, curb strips and streets, and some HOAs have their own rules, so check the local sign ordinance and ask the homeowner before you set them out.

What should a contractor jobsite sign say?

One short message per side that a driver can read in two seconds: "Local Contractor" with your company name on one side, and "Easy Financing Available" with your trade on the other. Add your logo and a QR code to both, and leave everything else off.

Do people actually scan QR codes on jobsite signs?

Some will, when the code leads somewhere worth the scan. Point it to a page about your company or a financing pre-qualification link rather than your home page, and give each sign its own link so you can see which neighborhoods respond.

How do jobsite photos help a contractor show up in local search?

Photos with the town and service in the file name and caption, posted to your Google Business Profile and to town-specific pages on your website, show search engines and AI assistants where you work. Google has said geotagging itself is unnecessary for SEO, so the descriptive name, caption and page matter more than the hidden location data.

How much time does this take?

About five minutes at each stop to set out the signs and take two photos, plus thirty minutes a week to post and organize the photos. Much of the weekly work can be handed to an office assistant or outsourced.
